Addis Ababa, February 11, 2026 – The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was re-elected on Wednesday as a member of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) for a two-year term, securing 44 out of 48 votes. This marks the country’s second consecutive term, following its first mandate that began on April 1, 2024.
The PSC, the AU’s standing decision-making body, plays a central role in preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts across the continent. The DRC previously held the Council’s rotating chairmanship in November 2024 and January 2026, highlighting its continued commitment to peace and security in Africa.
During this election, Gabon was also chosen to represent Central Africa on the Council.
